Pierre Clouthier was addicted to genealogy after his grandfather shared his manuscript of his family history in 1976. This led to Pierre starting “Progeny Genealogy” in 1995, which is the leading developer of family tree software that works directly with most popular genealogy database programs.

Amongst other products, Progeny Genealogy produces Charting Companion, a Charting Package for most of the common genealogy applications, such as Family Tree Maker, Legacy, Ancestral Quest, Family Historian, RootsMagic, as well as PAF and GEDCOM. The company has released Charting Companion plugins for Family Tree Maker Windows and Family Tree Maker Mac.

The company is currently focused on marketing three family tree software products that allow users to create various types of genealogy charts: Charting Companion & Progeny 3D Family Tree, Genelines, and Map My Family Tree. Charting Companion creates what is considered the more standard genealogy charts and reports, but it creates more and better charts, and allows more formatting and color control than is available from genealogy database programs. Genelines timeline software and Map My Family Tree are unique in their presentation of family tree data – providing visual storytelling and  powerful research tools not available in most genealogy programs.
